It’s been a few days worth of sweets around my house. I guess we can all blame that on being cooped up with a long weekend of cooler weather here in Texas. I’ve got to be honest. I’ve been skipping out on breakfast for a while now. With school starting back up after the winter break and a terrible head cold running rampant through the house… There just hasn’t been enough time in the day to fuss with breakfast. And the whole point of breakfast is just that… to break-the-fast of the night of sleeping.

They don’t say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day for no reason. It’s there to start your day off and get you in gear for the rest of the day. Trust me when I say that being ‘hangry’ is a real thing. Finally, I made plans this week to stick to my guns and be SURE that I started my day off right with actually eating breakfast again….

Who the hell ever said that black-eyed peas had to just be a New Year’s day thing? Yes, I’m deliberately posting this recipe AFTER the first of the year to be a bit of a rebel.

Every year in my house, it’s the same old debate. What do we do with black-eyed peas to make them more edible. Let’s face it, black-eyed peas earned their nickname ‘dirt peas’ for a reason. Over the years, I’d like to think that I’ve come up with a few clever ways.

Savory Holiday Monkey Bread

I love monkey bread. I love that it’s a quick, easy, and delicious way to pack a lot more flavor into any traditional biscuit dough. Usually monkey bread is sweet and is made as more of a breakfast or even as a dessert. Such as my cherry pie version, or my pumpkin spice one! But, not much can beat the strawberries and cream monkey bread.

Today though, I was craving tomato soup and some crunchy bread. It’s chilly out and that traditional meal sounded very comforting. But then! I thought better of myself. Why make a boring plain old grilled cheese when I could make something drinkable, dipable, and fun instead?!…
