The holiday season is fast approaching, which always means plenty of friends and family coming and going to visit. When this time of year rolls around, there are always two things that I like to have on hand and ready to go; a warm cup of coffee and something sweet to enjoy it with.

There isn't much that reminds me of the holidays and family fun other than a traditional and perfectly tasty sugar cookie. That's probably because my mom and I get together once a year to bake up a cookie storm in my kitchen. We usually each pick two kinds of cookies and bake the day away together. Sugar cookies are always my first choice!...

Pie in a Pumpkin (Pilgrim's Pumpkin Pie)

October 26, 2017 Amanda Plott

Haven't you ever wondered how pumpkin pie got started? Did the pilgrims really make 'pumpkin pie' for the first Thanksgiving? I guess we'll never know. But, if they did, it probably would have been a lot different from today's standard pumpkin pie. And according to one source, it's thought that it would have been more of a 'pie in a pumpkin'.

This more 'traditional' pumpkin pie is basically made by baking a pie pumpkin and filling it with a delicious lightened up custard mixture that bakes into the whole pumpkin; giving you all the flavors of the pumpkin pie that we all know and love...

Zombie & Monster Men Cut-Out Sugar Cookies

October 11, 2017 Amanda Plott

I have to admit that baking can sometimes scare me. It's such an exact science that when I go to make my usual adjustments, I sometimes end up with a failure. Baking is not a forgiving medium by any means. Over the years, I've taken my past failures and worked through them as best I could to start building up my baking confidence and knowledge.

Cut-out style sugar cookies have been part of that fear factor for me since they are one of the most simplistic and yet horribly technical cookies out there. However, I think that I've finally cracked the code!...

Fall Harvest Salad with Pesto Vinaigrette

October 9, 2017 Amanda Plott

Holy moly! It's been a busy weekend over here. I'm ready for the monotony of a Monday. For sure. It's still pretty warm here in Texas, so while the weather is working on slowly cooling off, I'm working on salads still over here.

Of course, I still need to get my fix of Fall inspired veggies. So... I decided to load this salad up with plenty of Fall-friendly veg. I started this salad off with a base of baby spinach. It's one of my most favorite salad starters, and I think that's because it's such a versatile and nutritional green...

Apple Carrot Ginger Juice

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Dr. Axe - Food Is Medicine. The opinions and text are all mine.

I've been obsessed with this cold pressed juice bar down the street from me all summer long. It's an expensive habit and a hard one to break. However, when trying to cut back on spending and not on my health... the juice is the first thing to replace!

That's why I have been working for a couple of weeks now on perfecting my own homemade version of my favorite from the juice bar. Not only that, but I gave it a boost of even more benefits...

I'm so excited for this Football season and Walmart is my go-to store for all things Football! Game day grub has to be one of my all time favorite styles of food. It could be because it's always served more 'family style' and left as perfectly bites sized, snack worthy eats and treats. Or it could be because game day means the end of summer and the beginning of fall. I'm ready for the cooler weather. Bring it on!

Being a native Texan means that I'm even more into the spirit of game day. Every game day in Texas is basically a small holiday. We take our football and our game day spread almost as seriously as we take our BBQ...
