Morning Detox Honey Lemon Peppermint Water

February 20, 2015 Amanda Plott

I've heard a lot over the past year about the health benefits of drinking honey lemon water in the morning. So, a few months back I decided to begin testing this theory. But, instead of using plain-jane lemons and honey, I wanted to make an upgrade.

For a long while now, I've been taking a more therapeutic and wholesome approach to my chronic neck/shoulder pain, massive headaches, and debilitating ocular migraines. I've been dabbling with DoTerra Essential Oils quite a bit to help with common household illness, pain, mood, and even with my cooking! I figured that my essential oils would be a great addition or substitution to my new-found morning drink.

I will say that the first few mornings that I attempted to make and drink this water, it nearly knocked my socks off. I swear the first mug I made could have peeled the paint off my walls in the kitchen, hah! It took me about a week to get the right amounts of each component as well as getting my own senses ready.

I feel that I should mention that my original detest of this drink was largely due to the fact that I am not a fan of mint in any way, shape, or form. So asking myself to down a mug of hot peppermint was quite a challenge initially.

So, why drink this in the morning? Well, the fact is that warm honey and lemon water is said to help promote weight loss, it aids better digestion, cleanses the lymphatic system and urinary tract, boosts energy, improves mood, promotes clear glowing skin, and yes... it even improves oral health!

As if all that isn't enough, there's a million other reasons out there of why this is found to be such a great and healthy thing to do in the morning.

So now, why the peppermint? I added peppermint to my morning detox water because it too has a majority of health benefits such as boosting the immune system, pain and indigestion relief, improving circulation, promoting healthy hair and skin, as well as relieving nausea and headache!

After two or three test mornings, I finally found my perfect mixture and actually really enjoy it as a pick-me-up each day now. I can honestly say that this drink definitely has left me in a better mood each morning. It has also improved my complexion rather noticeably over the past few months that I've been drinking it too!

While I'm sure that you could use any brand of essential oils to make this drink, I have only ever made it personally with DoTerra. I know that there's a lot of heated debates out there about oil brands, and whether or not they should be ingested. So, you will naturally want to do your own research before trying this drink to see if you think it's going to be beneficial to you and your lifestyle.

I will say that I have quite a few health care providers and/or nurses in my life, almost all of which use essential oils in their every day lives. In fact, my mother-in-law is who originally suggested essential oils to me and she too is a nurse who heard about oils from her nurse friends. But... to each, his own!
