'Instant' Skinny Chai Tea Latte Mix

My world just became a sweeter place! Okay, so maybe there's a little spice in there too. What better is there to take a nice well-deserved break with during a dreary and cold morning other than a nice warm cup of a homemade chai tea latte in hand?

And no, I don't just mean a cup of chai flavored tea either, but an actual chai tea latte that's teaming with milk and a joyful mix of spices.

My life has had a lot of sweet moments in it that have happened to revolve around tea in one way or another. What can I say, a lot of good things can come about with a nice warm cup of soothing tea.

I think one of my earliest memories of tea would have been back when I was in grade school, or just about to start junior high. My great-grandmother was living with us at the time and I think that my brother was only 2-3 years old. Every afternoon my mom would make a nice hot pot of tea to take down to my wheelchair bound great-grandma for them to enjoy together. And of course, being as it was my mom, she would use her fancy floral ceramic tea pot and matching cups.

Years later when I was in high school, my grandmother came for a visit and the three of us ladies went off to a local tea room where we shared a fabulous afternoon along with some high tea service. And even after that, I ended up having a mad hatter tea party for my little girl's first birthday.

Recently though, I've managed to find another local tea room that isn't quite as fancy or traditional as the one that I went to in high school, but it's definitely a lot of fun. One of my favorite things to get there is chai tea. Of course, the tea room isn't exactly something I can go to every day. It's a bit of a drive, slightly spendy, and not exactly favorable to my figure.

So today I've opted to make my day a little sweeter with a homemade dry chai tea mix that's sure to delight and take me right back into all of those wonderful and fond memories I have of tea.

When putting this recipe together, I decided to use Truvia for the sweetener instead of granulated sugar. I'm always trying to cut sugar out of my diet wherever I can! Truvia is an all natural zero-calorie sweetener that's made from the sweet leaves of the stevia plant. Plus, it's kosher and gluten-free; and of course, gluten-free is something I've been striving for lately too. Now, I've got to admit that I've never tried Truvia before. So, I went in a little skeptical... but, I've fallen in love! Truvia has a great taste and a texture that is much more familiar to me than the powder-like consistency of some other sweeteners out there.

By the way, you can try Truvía® Natural Sweetener before purchasing. Request your free sample today!

I also chose to use Bigelow 'English Teatime' Black Tea to partner with the dry chai tea latte mix. I wanted a bold full bodied black tea that could stand up to the spice of the latte mix without overpowering it. Bigelow 'English Teatime' was perfect for the job!

You can download a $0.55 coupon for Bigelow tea too!

Another great thing about this mix, other than the fact that it's lightened up, is that it makes enough so that you can even gift some of it away. A container of the dry mix and a few black tea bags are sure to make someone else 's world a sweeter place too.

I was able to get all my ingredients at my local Target.

When ready, transfer the mix to an airtight sealable container.

I got two full regular mason jars worth of mix. One for me, and one to give to my mom!

To use, add 2 tbsp. of the dry latte mixture to a cup of steaming hot water along with a bag of black tea.

Allow the tea to steep for a few moments and enjoy!

I've shared my chai tea moment with you; I'd love to hear about yours! Leave a comment sharing your favorite memory of enjoying some tea!
