Alright so… bare with me here. I know that chocolate isn’t the most healthy thing out there but, Halloween is just around the corner and as I like to say ‘everything in moderation’. Plus, we’re using some dark chocolate here so… that’s more healthy than other options, right? The truth is, I’m a firm believer in allowing yourself some treats here and there to keep yourself sane and from making worse decisions later.

So to make this bark a little more guilt-free, I decided to start it off with some dark chocolate. It’s my excuse for any kind of chocolate related candies or cakes. At least it has a few more health benefits than some of the other chocolates out there. That’s my story at least, and I’m sticking to it.

With that dark chocolate, we’re adding just a touch of red velvet cake mix. Why? To get that red velvet cake taste in there, of course!

After that, I made a layer of equal value in white chocolate. Good stuff, right? This layer is just that. White chocolate. It’s going to make our red chocolate pop and look more… hm… festive. Over the white chocolate, I gave a good spatter of red chocolate. You’ll want to use the red candy melts for this! DO NOT attempt to color white chocolate with traditional liquid food coloring.

On top of our red ‘blood’ spatters, I threw on some cute ‘bloody’ skeleton bones that I’ve been holding onto for a while now. This was the perfect excuse to use them! Upon further inspection, it looks like there’s some brains in there too.

All-in-all I think this Halloween Red Velvet Chocolate Bark turned out pretty stinkin’ cute!

Yum

This fun Halloween inspired Red Velvet Chocolate Bark is homemade and perfect for any party or get together. It's a little bit more guilt-free with dark chocolate as the base.

Prep Time: 15 Minutes • Cook Time: 2 Hours

The Skinny:
Servings: 30 • Serving Size: 1/30th • Calories: 268 • Fat: 31 g • Saturated Fat: 9 g • Carb: 42 g • Fiber: 2 g • Protein: 3 g • Sugar: 26 g • Sodium: 263 mg

Ingredients:
• 10 Oz. Dark Chocolate Chips
• 2 Tbsp. Dry Red Velvet Cake Mix
• 10 Oz. White Chocolate Chips
• 5 Oz. Red Candy Melts
• Scary 'Bone' Sprinkles

Directions:
Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper or a silicone sheet.

Melt the 10 oz. dark chocolate according to the package directions.

Once good and melted, whisk in the 2 Tbsp. dry cake mix and pour the chocolate out onto the prepared baking sheet. Smooth it out into an even layer. (I even like to give mine a couple of soft taps on the counter or gentle shakes to smooth it out.)

Place the baking sheet into the freezer.

While the first chocolate layer is setting, melt the 10 oz. white chocolate according to it’s package directions.

Remove the baking dish from the freezer and pour the white chocolate out over the first dark chocolate layer and carefully smooth once again before placing back into the freezer.

While those layers set, melt the 5 oz. red candy melts according to the package directions.

Remove the baking sheet, and using a fork or whisk, make your ‘blood’ spatters with the melted red chocolate over the white chocolate.

Sprinkle the bone candies over the melted red chocolate and place it all back into the freezer one last time.

Allow the bark to chill for about 2 hours or until all layers are firm and set.

Remove from the freezer and break the park apart carefully into pieces.
