What is Labneh?

Labneh is a tangy, creamy cheese made from strained yogurt, popular in Middle Eastern cuisine. It’s not only delicious but also loaded with probiotics, making it a gut-friendly ingredient. Its delightful thickness and slight tartness make it a superb base for this dish. In addition, it can easily be made at home by straining plain Greek yogurt through cheesecloth – a fun kitchen experiment for anyone looking to impress friends at brunch!

The Magic of Harissa

Now, let’s talk about harissa. This fiery chili paste brings depth and complexity to the table. This delightful dish combines the creamy richness of labneh, the zesty kick of harissa, and the silken elegance of poached eggs.

Ingredients

  • 2 Whole Large Eggs
  • 1 Tbsp. White Vinegar
  • 3 Tbsp. Labneh
  • 1 Tbsp. Harissa
  • Salt & Pepper to Taste

Instructions

  1. Fill a large sauce pot with water and set it over high-heat to bring to a boil.White that's heating up, carefully get an egg cracked into a small bowl. Once the water is boiling, add in the 1 Tbsp. Vinegar and reduce the heat to simmer. Use a spoon to swirl the water in one direction in the pot then gently dump the cracked egg into the center. Cook for 3 1/2 minutes then set aside and repeat the process for the second egg.
  2. Spread the 3 Tbsp. Labneh out on your plate.
  3. Top the Labneh with the 1 Tbsp. Harissa and Salt & Pepper to Taste.
  4. Transfer the poached eggs to top the Labneh and Harissa.
  5. Enjoy right away!
